Cross-Tech, ASET Services’ new division, is focused on making new technology available to the market. Cross-Teck is providing the sports surface industry with an informative tool to calculate the Equilibrium Moisture Content, or EMC, of the maple components of hardwood area elastic sport and dance floors.
The EMC represents the equilibrium moisture content of the maple for a given environments (temp/RH). It is an indication of the expected moisture content of the Maple when it reaches equilibrium with the environment. A significantly long exposure to a given temp/RH environment is required for the Maple to reach a true equilibrium moisture content.
Note: This calculator is provided as an informative tool. While it was developed using the equations, and material properties found in the Second Edition of the Wood Engineering Handbook, wood is obviously a biological material and any properties are merely estimates. Users of this calculator accept any and all liability associated with it’s results.
EMC values can be used to estimate expected expansion and contraction levels which can help guide the installation of sufficient internal system expansion.
This calculator only accepts temperature in Fahrenheit (F), uses must convert readings from Celsius to Fahrenheit for accurate results. Relative Humidity is entered in units of %. The calculator generates a result for the EMC based on the environmental conditions provided, after pressing the ‘Calculate’ button.
Use this tool to estimate:
- The EMC for the current environment.
- The EMC for estimated environmental extremes (such as summer and winter conditions)
- The EMC based on active and inactive HVAC and humidity controls
